The Sanggunian Bayan (SB) passed a resolution Monday, ensuring the representation of Indigenous People (IP) or Agta in the Local Government (LGU) special bodies.
IP representative to the SB Emmanuel Cerillo introduced Resolution no. 173 says that the Indigenous Rights Act of 1997 (RA 8371) mandates LGU to recognize and give full representation not only to SB but on all government organizations.
Among the IP leaders who will sit as a regular member of the special bodies are Jessie Oliveros(Peace and Order Council), Redentor Cañada (WAQMA), Mario Resureccion (Local Development Council), Merian San Juan (Local School Board), Vilma Coronel (Local Health Board) and Emelita Alipante (PAMB), said Cerillo.
The representatives were chosen by the “Katutubong Komunidad ng mga Agta sa Buhi” through a resolution of endorsement, explained Cerillo.
