More than 1,000 indigent senior citizens have received their six months’ worth of social pension from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Senior Citizens Affairs Office (OSCA) said on Monday, January 11.
OSCA Officer Cristina Tayag-Nadal said a total of 1,140 beneficiaries of the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens from 38 barangays got their pension at P3,000 per semester for CY 2020, amounting to P3,420,000.00.
The payout took place on January 8,9 and 10 of this year from four payout centers of the town, she said in Buhi Magazine’s interview.
Mountain barangays recipients received their pension at Barangay San Vicente covered court, road barangays at Lourdes Elementary School, lake barangays at Cabatuan Covered Court, while Poblacion barangays at the vicinity of the Buhi Millenium Center, Nadal said.
There is an unclaimed 51 pension in my custody, and still waiting for the claimant to receive it this week. Otherwise, I will return it to the DSWD Region V office in Legaspi City for liquidation, Nadal clarifies.
Meanwhile, Buhi Magazine asked Nadal if the total beneficiaries of social pension tied at 1,191?
At least 400 applications for a pension tagged as waitlisted and already submitted to DSWD Region V office for quite some time, Nadal answered.
Nadal also explained when Buhi Magazine asked for at least 400 pending applications for pension already submitted to DSWD.
According to RA 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, the government’s social pension program aims to provide a monthly stipend amounting to Five hundred pesos (Php500. 00) to augment the daily subsistence and other medical needs of indigent senior citizens in the country.
